Friday "Why Did I Eat That Much?" Post

Proper utilization of "overet":  I dun over et.  I et too much.  My tummy hurts bad.

I think I ate all day.

Starting with Chex party mix for breakfast.  What the HECK?

No fruit.  No veggies.

Well, until Thanksgiving dinner, around 2 p.m. Pennsylvania time.

But up until that time?

I think I snacked all.day.long. while we were preparing everything.

We had lots of laughs, i.e. the time I forgot to mix the pecans in with the butter/flour/brown sugar mixture (to top the sweet potatoes).  (The topping ended up looking like a big pecan praline…but oh, man, did it taste good!)

I'm gonna try to overload on fruit today.

PS - The Infrared Turkey Fryers are the bomb.com.  No grease.  No mess.  Beautiful turkeys.  Amazing.

Okay.  Going to take a nap.  Right after I eat an orange.

What The Heck Time Is It?

Time change messes me up a bit.

I wake up, I think it’s 6 a.m. or so, and if I’m in the Northeast, it’s (duh) an hour earlier.

It should be a simple calculation for me, but it's not.  I might have to change the clock on my Mac just to acclimate.

Why is it such a big deal?  It shouldn't matter.

But...

I’m wide awake at night here, but when I'm at home, I start settling down around 8:30 p.m.

Last night, I finally went to sleep at midnight.  (That would be 11 p.m., to you.)

And then, my hosts came in from a hunting trip.  I’m upstairs, I heard their garage door open, and up I hopped to say hi to them.  Which kept me up, oh, another 30 minutes or so.

And then, when I got back in the bed, my mind was whirling again.

Ugh.  I gotta get better at this…what if I start to travel internationally?

Going to be a fun day today, but dang…I might need a nap!

Intervention Needed

I should just hire someone.

I hate to pack.

Oh, I can do it.

I can rock it, if the trip is 2 days or less.  I am the Queen of Minimalist.

But...if the trip is more than 2 days?

Indecision city.

Is it going to be hot where I’m going?  Or cold?

Or, God forbid, hot in the days, and wintery at night?  Double wardrobe.

In October, when we head to New Mexico Oil and Gas Association meetings, it’s at Santa Fe.  So, casual and sunny with a crispy hint of fall during the day, and wintery temps at night...when, by the way, you have to dress formally.

Recipe for packing disaster.

Headed to the Northeast in winter?  I want to take every fat heavy sweater I own...mostly because I don’t get a chance to wear them here in the west of Texas, where 75 degrees is the norm.

Then my suitcase gets overcrowded.

I get frustrated.

I threaten to cancel the trip.

Yup, I should just hire someone.

It’s obvious I need intervention.

Baby Announcements Rock

My friend had a great idea for a baby announcement.

I can honestly say this is one of the cutest things I've worked on in a while.

Mommy had been practicing with her, all I had to do was take the pictures!

I love it!

Yup...Another Holiday!

I feel it's my job to let you know when you might have missed another holiday.

I bet you didn't even know about this one.

I know I didn't.

Yup.  Yesterday was World Potty Day.

For your viewing pleasure, I thought I'd research some toilets of the past and future for you.  Because me and Google Images, yeah, we gots it going on, babe.

Yeah.  You're welcome.

Now this would be cool.  Well, until the fish went bye-bye.

I like this one.  Seriously.

Styling and profiling while you're...yeah.  Nevermind.

I do not even know.

I'm really really scared of this one.  It might be just paper - because it says it will be "found invaluable".

Ummmm....no.  No way in hell.  Not me.  EVAH.

Now this is a different take on things, huh?

Notice you have your reading light, your decorative bowl, your heavy arm rests and a drink holder or ashtray (not sure)
AND you have your decorative toilet brush holder.  Plus, of course, the gravity flush pull chain.

I have nothing to say.  Well, I could.  I still know people that have wooden toilet seats.

You must feel edified.

So, write November 18th down next year...so you can plan ahead for World Potty Day.

What the heck?  Who comes up with this s...tuff?

Don't forget to get plenty of fiber in your diet.

Upbeat Barista

Sunday morning, heading to the Houston airport, we stopped at Starbucks, as is our wont.

We pulled up to the drive-thru.

A friendly Barista male voice boomed out of the loudspeaker:

Good morning! Welcome to Starbucks, it's a beautiful day -  I hope you’re having a wonderful day!  What great-tasting drinks would you like today?

ThatManILove was rendered speechless.

The voice again:  “Good morning!  Hellooooo!  Anyone there?”

ThatManILove:  “Yes, I’m here.  I’m...uh...just...uh...trying to recover from your overtly enthusiastic optimism.”

The voice, laughing:  “That's an awesome response!!”

ThatManILove:  “No problem, I just wasn’t expecting it.”

Me?  I thought it was super refreshing.

We pull up, and the barista introduces himself.

Meet Preston.

Yes, I think I'll fill out the survey.  Because to render my smart, lawyer-like man speechless is no mean feat.

In Search Of A Munchkin

I woke up, a bit ago, and I realized I’m missing something.

This week has been highly planned, every second scheduled.  It’s been fun, you know I love people, and I’ve seen a million of them.

But…

I need to see a kid.

Pronto.

I need to know that it’s not all business.  That there is pure, unadulterated fun out there somewhere.

That not EVERYTHING is planned and plotted.

That not EVERY COMMENT is within a framework, carefully formed and uttered.

I need to see through someone else’s eyes.

I need to hear questions.  Pontification from the viewpoint of a 3 footer.  You know, because it COULD be that way.

I need to give hugs.  Encouragement.  “You CAN do it!”  “YAY!”

I need to be told, “C’mon, Janie, come play with me!”

Spontaneity.

Yup.

Now, how?  I’m not home, not planning on visiting anyone with munchkins this weekend.

Nor, do I have my camera with me.  (I can usually get people to play - get out of business mode - when I have my camera.  And that's fun, for them and I…I enjoy making people laugh, and capturing it via image.)

Hmmmm.

I’ll report back soon.

The Friday After (the F5)

It's 11:45 p.m.

I'm in the bed, about to put this Mac down.

But I have something to say to you.

Here it is:

My feet hurt.

I'm tired.

And Friday morning, I'm gonna sleep late.

Well, until about 6:30 a.m., when I'm going to get up, get ready, and take a bunch of friends to breakfast.

After that?

MAYBE a nap.

Yesterday Is Dead And Gone

Whooooeyyyyy!  What a day was yesterday!

Up at 4:30 am, to the airport at 6:00 a.m., en route to Houston at 7:30 a.m.

BY THE WAY:  If you happen to be a Southwest A-Lister, United Airlines or American Airlines top tier traveler, and you travel out of Midland International Airport…you no longer get to skip the long security line.  SERIOUSLY.  So plan accordingly.

Okay, rant over.

We get to the Thrifty Car Rental, disembark the shuttle bus, into a crowd of people.  No problem, right?  Because I HAVE A RESERVATION.

It’s now 9:10, and we have an 11 o’clock Lunch and Learn Technology Presentation.  I walk in, wait about 10 minutes to wend my way in the line to the counter, where I promptly (hah) find out…they have no cars.

I’m preferred Avis, Hertz, and National.  Why am I at Thrifty?  They were the only rental that had available vehicles.  True!  The website SAID so.

No, they did not.

I seriously got out cash and was thinking about bribing someone.  (I didn't. I was afraid of enraging the already enraged mob.) (Headline: Woman Trying To Manipulate The System Killed By Lynch Mob)

My colleagues and I ended up taking a taxi downtown, while ThatManILove stayed until a vehicle appeared, and he drove to meet us.

We had a great meeting, then repaired to our downtown Houston office, where I got ready for my National AADE Board meeting that will happen today.

And then, last night, we had dinner with friends that live in the area.  Which lasted until way late in the night.  We had so much fun with them, totally closed down Pappa’s Seafood, and they will join us tonight with their daughter and son-in-law.

Wish you were here – it’s gonna be a fun day and night!

Life in the Oilpatch.  I absolutely LOVE it.

I seriously cannot imagine my life any other way...
