Friday "Why Did I Eat That Much?" Post

Proper utilization of "overet":  I dun over et.  I et too much.  My tummy hurts bad.

I think I ate all day.

Starting with Chex party mix for breakfast.  What the HECK?

No fruit.  No veggies.

Well, until Thanksgiving dinner, around 2 p.m. Pennsylvania time.

But up until that time?

I think I snacked all.day.long. while we were preparing everything.

We had lots of laughs, i.e. the time I forgot to mix the pecans in with the butter/flour/brown sugar mixture (to top the sweet potatoes).  (The topping ended up looking like a big pecan praline…but oh, man, did it taste good!)

I'm gonna try to overload on fruit today.

PS - The Infrared Turkey Fryers are the bomb.com.  No grease.  No mess.  Beautiful turkeys.  Amazing.

Okay.  Going to take a nap.  Right after I eat an orange.

I Missed National Sandwich Day? What?

So, yesterday was National Sandwich Day.

Did you know that?  I did not.  I missed it!

And what a great excuse to splurge!  I would have gone and bought, or made, a sandwich for every hour.

You think I’m kidding?

I love sandwiches.

To me, sandwich equals comfort food.

ThatManILove?  HATES sandwiches.

To him, sandwich = childhood memories, living on a preacher’s meager salary, growing up with 5 hungry brothers.

I can remember when we were first dating, he would call and ask to take me to dinner after work.  I would be tired, and having already entertained customers for two meals that day, I would want to go home. Put on slouchy pajamas.  And...have a sandwich.

He thought that was so funny!

I grew up on bologna and cheese sandwiches.  Peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Ham sandwiches. Homemade pimiento cheese sandwiches.  So good!

And after Thanksgiving?  Oh, yum, turkey sandwiches!  I can taste them right now!

And the perfect compliment to any sandwich?  Lays Potato Chips.

Nirvana.

How about you?  What is your favorite sandwich?

It's 6:00 a.m.  I think I'm gonna go fix me a peanut butter sandwich.  Pass the bananas, please.

Cheeeeeeese - Grilled, That Is!

A week ago found me in Houston, dining with a customer for lunch.

It was kind of a drizzly day, and we went to Morton's via the underground downtown tunnel.

(That is a cool thing, by the way - that tunnel that runs through downtown Houston!)

We arrived at the restaurant, saw this Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Soup on the menu, and ordered it.

I about fell out of the chair when this arrived.

Freaking huge.

And this is what it looked like from the side.

So much for a simple snack-y lunch.  This was enough to feed an army.

And this is what it looked like from the other side.

Okay, I'm lying about that.

Needless to say, I was in a carb coma the entire flight home.

Comfort Food

Do you have a “comfort food”?

It might be something from your youth. For example, ThatManILove loves him some New York style hotdog. If you don’t know what this is (for they rarely serve them in West Texas!), it’s a hot dog with mustard, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. No chili. And the only place locally he can get them is (1) at home, when he makes them, and (2) at Der Wienerschnitzel, which is located 20 miles away in Odessa.

For me? It’s Starbucks Venti Chai, no water.

Foodwise? Cornbread, with a little bit of sweet to it. Lordy, I do love me some cornbread. And blackeyed peas, please.

My comfort food used to be Cool Ranch Doritos and a Dr. Pepper. I really thought that was great food for breakfast (oh, yeah...I’m an oilfield gal!). I rarely drink Dr. Pepper now, but I will sneak a Cool Ranch Dorito chip or two!

When Outback came to town (I celebrated that day!), we would always start out a meal with Aussie Cheese Fries. Until I read the calorie count in those puppies a couple of years ago. I couldn’t believe it.

And now, the Aussie Cheese Fries have made the #1 listing in the Men’s Health.com article “The 20 Worst Foods In America” - with a rocking 2900 calories per order.

A Little Bit of Heaven...That Goes Straight To My Butt
My Chai didn’t make it, but it should have, at 300+ calories, and that’s with low-fat milk.

I quit. If you see me going thru the Starbucks drive-thru, feel free to stop me and check me for drinks. And pour them out.

So, what's your comfort food?
