Snooziness

Cool weather and a little bit of moisture were welcomed in the West of Texas.

And fall inspires quite a bit around this house.

I cleaned out my purse stash.  Found crazy treasure in that hoard, by the way.

Cleaned out my shoe stash.  Away!  Begone!

And somehow, the dogs like sleeping in the cooler weather.  So...

There was a lot of this going on this weekend.

If that looks weird, I'm in a chair with an ottoman.  Zanna is buried halfway under my blanket.  And Zack is snoring on the floor...bone in easy grabbing sight.

Great weekend.

Somedoggy's Sporting New Gear - (The Little Heifer)

Sometimes, my Wonderdog Zanna borders on being a b****.

Well, not in the literal sense of the word, because we had her fixed.  But, yeah.

Zanna is one bossy little heifer.  She ALWAYS thinks she’s at Burger King, and she’s gotta have it her way.  If she wants something, needs something, or you know, just think you need to be m.o.v.i.n.g...she's in your face.

Zack?  He’s one laid back dude.  He’d just as soon snuggle up against someone - anyone - and just receive the love.  He’s happy.
Zack.  Mr. Laid Back.  (Unless he's hunting.)
Zanna is another story altogether.

She’s had a pretty rough day today.  We’re fighting skin allergies on her behalf, and her prescription Atopica has virtually stopped working.  She's been miserable. So we’ve been searching other remedies.

We gave her an Aveeno bath, and that seemed to help.  Put Eczema lotion on her, and that seemed to help.  We gave her a Benadryl, and that seemed to help.

She napped for a little bit and chilled out.  (Probably the Benedryl.) But when she woke up, she barked at me.
Zanna.  She looks sweet.  It's a joke.  I swear.
I was doing something (constructive, I’m sure) and put her off for no more than a minute.  Then, I heard her chewing something.  I could tell by the sound it was an illegally obtained item.  Contraband.

It sounded hard and plastic-y.

I told you she was a little heifer.

She had gone into the bathroom, grabbed both her and Zack’s collars (which ThatManILove had not put back on post dog-showers) and had them in her mouth.

Zack’s is leather, so she ditched it for hers and promptly sheared it into two pieces. In less than one minute.
The prior collar.  How does she chew something in an almost straight line?

Twerpette.

Thank God I had extras.

She Doesn't Believe Me...and Happy Mutt's Day

(Did you know that today is Mutt's Day?  Yeah.  So...Happy Mutt's Day!  Go buy your four legged barky friend(s) a treat! Tell them ThatJanieGirl made you do it.)

My husband and my brother and a lot of my friends call me the dog whisperer (Move over, Cesar Milan).  My dog-walker often calls or texts for advice.  I don’t think I know that much, but I do try to “think like the dog”.  My sister-in-love is a dog rescuer and rehabilitator.  She’s the dog whisperer, I would say.

We’ve trained our dogs to go to the bathroom on command.  They’re hunting dogs, so we might be in Timbuctoo for a field trial, limited time on our hands, and they need to have voided prior to going in for their competition.  So we taught them to perform their “duties”, as it were, via the command, “Hurry.”  On leash or off, they’re pretty automatic.  (Hey.  Don't be hating.  It's better than being the only girl in a cadre of camo-upped guys at a competition, taking your dog to do his/her business, and saying, "Go pee-pee now, Zack*, honey.  Then go out there, be the man, and retrieve that bird."  Right?  Right?)

So, in conversation, I was talking to my sister-in-love about how going to the dog park is such a trip for dogs, and why they tend to ignore you, ignore commands, etc., off leash and at the park.  In speaking, I alluded to the dog park being like an overcrowded shopping mall for the serious shopper.  There is just too much going on at a super busy mall, crowded with kiosks, cookie booths, people selling, selling, selling - too many scents - there have been way too many people there and too much to see.  It's overwhelming.

Back to the dog park - take a dog to a dog park, he’s NOT going to pee or poop on command.  There have been too many “dogs” in what he now views as "His Park".  He’s going to go check their calling cards, right?  It's a dog rule.  It's the dog version of LinkedIn.  We could name it "SniffedIn."

Thus, the conversation, on Facebook, no less, last night.  She cracks me up.

But I'm still right.  "Think like the dog.  Be the dog." And Lisa - I love you.

Plumb Wore Out...

My faithful companions since I’m off work, post surgery.

Here, they are trying to get my attention, while acting otherwise.

Kind of in-my-face, so if, perchance, I move, they will, but meanwhile, they’re checking out what’s happening outside.  A squirrel might happen by, who knows? Multitasker German Shorthairs.

I’m doing well.  Actually drove today for a bit.  Wore me plumb out.

Plumb out.  Gosh, I’ve not heard that in a while.  “I’m worn plumb out.”

Which is completely different than “half a bubble off plumb.”

What  funky sayings hail from your "vagrant yoot"?
