I took a Lightroom class last night - my first night of two.
I’m so excited. I learned so much!
One thing, probably one of the most important - that your edited pictures you see on your screen may not be what your viewers see...so get a screen calibration kit. Use it.
And be amazed.
That is the profound thought that is rocking my world today.
So be it.
Hey Janie, thanks for talking about that. I've been trying to learn Photoshop, but saw good reviews of Lightroom. Do you need both? Does Lightroom do all that Photoshop does plus more?
ReplyDeleteHey Janie, thanks for posting this. I've been trying to learn Photoshop, but I've heard good things about Lightroom. Do you need both? Or is Lightroom a better substitute for Photoshop?
ReplyDeleteMy instructor is a superbly accomplished photographer, does it for a living. She does almost 100% of her editing in Lightroom, and only uses Photoshop for airbrushing, etc. So, in answer to your question, I think it's up to you. But I'm gonna take her lead…I don't have time to get that technical, and don't foresee me having the luxury of that time in the future. So until I need it, I'm good with Lightroom.
DeleteI don't think anyone sees what you see Janie.
ReplyDeleteI'm just now replying to comments, but you, Joe, have made me laugh with this one. And how true it is, my friend!
DeleteThat's good to know! I've been reading about it and have seen lots of comments on how the program is so smooth and effortless and it makes you feel like you're good at something, which I need! :-) I'll look forward to seeing your pictures!
ReplyDeleteKim- me, too! I am soooo impressed with it, already!
DeleteI've thought about photoshop, but I have lost the ability to post from YouTube and to add links. I don't know why, unless I have to upgrade to Google Chrome or something. If I ever figure that out, then I might try some photo stuff.
ReplyDeleteI'm not in Google Chrome. I think Photoshop is hard, but then again, I'm not a geek. And you can add to everything from Lightroom.
DeleteI've used Microsoft Digital Image Pro (the old, old, version) for 15 years. The upgrade I couldn't figure out. Photoshop I couldn't figure out. Adobe left me in the dust with all the percentages and layers. And I get the same effects from my Model T Digital Image Pro.
ReplyDeleteMy brain cells are old and not likely to regenerate, so I'm stuck with the old programs.
Lightroom was amazingly easy! I still have a ways to go, but I like it so far~~
ReplyDeleteGo you! Looking forward to more of your photography tips. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Janie Girl- Sounds like all is well with you! I have been thinking about Adobe, but after reading this post, I think I'll check out Lightroom. Time is always an issue--just can't learn everything! My photos are taken with my iPhone--which often need a little help. I'm not much of a tech, and digital cameras intimidate me, but I've been really interested in photography lately. Thanks for letting us know about Lightroom! :)
ReplyDeleteYou go, girl. I'll look forward to seeing your shots! And iPhone? Impressive. Seriously. My iPhone shots need deliverance…way more than any editing program can provide!!
