Dex The Plant DogTer

I heard a noise.

A chewing of plastic-type noise.

One of those noises that brings me running.

I turn the corner, and I’m stopped in my tracks.

This is in my living room floor.

This.

This plant.

That probably weighs 10 lbs.

Dex has taken it off the planter stand, and brought it into the living room, a cool driveway’s length away, in. his.mouth.

Thank the Lord it is a purple dew plant, and is super hardy, and it needed thinning anyway.  I just stuck all the broken pieces in one of my garden planters and they’re thriving!

It’s never boring around here.

Purple Sage, How I Love Thee.

I'm pretty sure it's Young Living's fault that I have fallen further in love with plants of all kinds.  Nowadays, I'm always looking at plants to see if I can recognize and identify them.

Yesterday morning, I was heading to work and I saw some purple sage, in full bloom.

I'm a desert girl.  I live in the land of high heat, sweltering cars, and the horrible feeling of walking out of a perfectly comfortable air conditioned house into the breathtaking heat of the dog days of August.

But purple sage?  A beautiful thing to see when in it's glory! And it makes the heat bearable...because it bears a promise of cooling to come.

Abloom as in this picture, the purple sage is telling us West Texans, "Hey, y'all.  Rain...it is a'coming this way...and soon."

Better than the farmer's almanac, I tell you.

And what a blessing the rain is, when does it fall.  It's rained the last two days.

I love it.  And I love purple sage bushes.

Long may they bloom.

Homeward Bound

Hi, y'all!

It's been a while since I posted, or it FEELS that way, anyway!

I'm in Pennsylvania as I write this, packing up my stuff to leave my good friends' house.  It's been a beautiful stay. I was productive in the work portion, and in the work/play portion (the AADE Appalachian Blast) and in the chill portion (hanging out with my friends!).

The weather and scenery have been beautiful, I met a lot of new people and potential clients, and oh, my Lord, it rained.  I know it might not be raining at home, but the rain here was so refreshing to me.  I could just stay out in it all day long!  And I haven't seen so much green in I don't know when.

I'll take some scenery pix today as I travel en route to the airport.

Some funny things have happened in a week, and I'll be writing about them.  For now, though, I must go pack and ready myself for the trip back home to ThatManILove and my Wonderdogs.

I'll be home a day and a half, then it's off to DFW for the DFW AADE Sporting Clay Shoot, where ElderSon might join me!

Goodbye, Beautiful - An Ode To Plants In The Desert

I’m looking at my plants and I’m starting to grieve.

July 1st, our town started a mandatory watering schedule.

Twice a week.  No more than that, or we’ll be heavily fined.

And my plants, my beautiful outside oasis...I wonder how it’s going to fare.

I know in the bigger picture that they are here but for a moment anyway, but I love them so much.  This is my quiet place, I hang out here almost every morning at 5:30.  And I’ll miss the plants so much when they’re gone.  And gone, they will be, most certainly gone in 108-110 degree temps without every day watering. 

I guess I better take some pictures while they’re still (mostly) beautiful.

Lord, please send rain.  Our farmers, ranchers, we all need it.
